TITLE: Legacy #42 cover

MEDIUM: Digital; Photoshop CS, Wacom Intuos 3 tablet.

ABOUT THE PIECE:

My first Star Wars cover... In fact, my first official comic work in over 10 years! Being able to do Star Wars comic work is a HUGE redemption for me, as my last stint in the comics industry was during my arrogant "know it all" mid 20's, (in the mid 90's) when I thought I was great, and really wasn't.

It was good to be back in touch with Dark Horse whom I hadn't done any work for since the "Aliens: Pig" cover back in 1997 (I think that was the year. Before that, it was 2 covers for Godzilla comics. Oh, how I'd love a chance to "fix" those paintings!)

I embarked upon a row of rough sketches and paintings to try and adjust my "creative mind' back into comic book mode, after spending the last decade immersed in 99.9% advertising work.

So I did character studies (though it wasn't asked of me) of several of the characters who might be appearing on the cover in the final art, just to truly get a feel for genre publication again. In the end, 4 b/w roughs were submitted to Lucasfilm/Dark Horse for final approval to move foreward on oe of the concepts.

You can see obviously which concept won the day.
